Post to Facebook with Jetpack Social

Automatically publish your blog posts to Facebook pages you manage.

Connect your site to your Facebook page

(See below for instruactions about connecting multiple pages.)

Since 2018, third-party tools such as Jetpack can only share posts to Facebook pages, not profiles. If you’d like to share any concerns with Facebook, please visit their Help Center.

You will need to use a Facebook profile account that has administrative rights to the target page. A page-only account or a page managed by Facebook Business Manager cannot be used with Jetpack Social. If you’d like to remove a Facebook page from Facebook Business Manager, you can follow the instructions here.

Connect your Jetpack Social to Facebook by following these steps:

  1. Go to your Marketing and Integrations settings in the WordPress.com Dashboard.
  2. Choose the site you wish to connect with Jetpack Social from the list on the left sidebar, or use the search field to find it quickly.
  3. In the left sidebar, click on Tools → Marketing, then navigate to the Connections tab.
  4. Find Facebook in the list and click the Connect button.
  5. Follow the prompts to log into your Facebook account.
  6. If you’re connecting your website to Facebook via Jetpack for the first time, authorize Jetpack’s required permission to manage and auto-share posts on your Facebook pages. To do this, click on “Edit access.”
  7. After setting the permissions, select “Continue as [Your Name]” to move forward. If you manage multiple Facebook pages, you will be prompted to select the page you want to connect to Jetpack Social.
  8. Click Connect to finish connection between Jetpack Social and your chosen Facebook page.
  9. You will be redirected back to your WordPress.com Dashboard, where a confirmation notice will inform you of a successful connection: “Your Facebook account has been successfully connected.”

Make the Facebook connection available to all users

To make the Facebook connection available to all users of the blog (known as a “global connection”), please follow these steps:

  1. Access your site Dashboard  → Tools → Marketing → Connections.
  2. Click the ⌄ arrow next to the Facebook connection
  3. Click and enable Connection available to all administrators, editors, and authors

This will make sure posts by any Jetpack-connected users will automatically publish to Facebook.

Reconnect Facebook

If Facebook gets disconnected from your Jetpack Social, re-establish the connection by following the steps below:

  1. Access your site Dashboard  → Tools → Marketing → Connections
  2. Navigate to the Facebook connection and click the Connect button.
  3. On the next screen, either click Continue if you’re already connected to your Facebook account or connect to the account you intend to use.

Post to multiple Facebook pages

With Jetpack Social, you can seamlessly link and share posts across several Facebook pages. To add multiple accounts, you can follow the steps:

  1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard
  2. From the left sidebar select your site
  3. Head over to ToolsMarketing and then click on the “Connections” tab.
  4. In the Facebook section, hit the drop-down arrow on the right to expand the module.
  5. Click “Connect one more account”.
  6. A prompt will notify you that Jetpack has been previously connected to Facebook. Now, click “Log into another account” and proceed as directed.

After connecting multiple accounts, when drafting a post, choose the specific accounts you wish to share it on. The connected accounts will appear grayed out – click on your desired pages to activate sharing.

Troubleshoot Jetpack Social Facebook connections

First, check that your Jetpack connection is working properly – Jetpack Social will not work otherwise.

Previously-scheduled posts not sharing after Facebook reconnection

In certain situations, when Facebook is reconnected, previously scheduled posts may not be shared as anticipated.

Status: Our developers are currently working to address this problem. We appreciate your patience while we work towards a solution.

Temporary Workaround: In the interim, we suggest you implement the following steps to mitigate this issue:

  1. Switch the affected scheduled post back to ‘draft’.
  2. Remove the existing Facebook connection.
  3. Re-establish the Facebook connection.
  4. Change the status of the post from ‘draft’ to ‘scheduled’ again.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your posts are shared on Facebook as planned.

Posts do not appear on my page

When Jetpack Social publishes a post to your Facebook page, Facebook crawls your post and looks for Open Graph meta tags in the head to build a complete Facebook post preview (with an image, title, description, etc.). Errors in the tags can result in the post not being shared to Facebook. To troubleshoot this:

  1. Check for errors by entering one of your post URLs in the Facebook Sharing Debugger.
  2. Fix any errors for Jetpack Social to start working again.
  3. For duplicate set of Open Graph meta tags, make sure you only use one plugin to manage your Open Graph tags.
  4. If your theme manages Open Graph meta tags for you, you’ll need to edit the theme or contact the theme authors to ask them how to remove Open Graph metadata from your theme.

The Facebook page I want to connect to Jetpack Social is not available to select

There is currently a limit of 25 Facebook pages that Jetpack Social can show. If your Facebook account manages more than 25 pages, you may wish to transfer management of some pages to an alternative Facebook account.

If you already have fewer than 25 pages, please try:

  1. Completely disconnect your Facebook account.
  2. When reconnecting, make sure to click the “Choose what you allow” link to allow WordPress to manage all pages (or at least all the pages that you may want to connect to in future).

Jetpack Social is still not working

If the Sharing Debugger shows no issues, please follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect and reconnect Facebook as explained above.
  2. Check for plugin or theme conflicts.
